Philip Sparrow
Candidate for Hardway
I was born in Burnley, Lancashire, and moved to Portsmouth at the age of four. I’ve lived in Gosport since 1989 and now call Hardway Ward my home. This is my community — it’s where I’ve built my life, and where I want to make a difference.
Following in my father’s footsteps, I served as an Aircraft Mechanic in the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm, including active duty during the Falklands campaign aboard HMS Hermes. That experience shaped my values — discipline, responsibility and service.
After leaving the Armed Forces, I worked for 37 years at Huhtamaki (UK) Ltd as a Senior Operator and Team Leader. I understand what it means to work hard, take responsibility and earn your place.
Volunteering with a homeless veterans’ charity in Poole deepened my commitment to supporting former service personnel. I’ve seen firsthand the impact of mental health struggles and PTSD, and I remain actively involved in supporting veterans’ welfare.
I also have personal experience of the challenges faced by families with children who have Special Educational Needs. Securing EHCPs and finding suitable school places can be incredibly difficult. With local provision stretched, we need to cut wasteful spending and invest properly in local services.
After years of political instability and broken promises, I joined Reform UK because I believe it can deliver the change many people are calling for.
Locally, we need greater transparency and accountability. Residents deserve to know how decisions are made, which is why I support live-streamed council meetings. Hardway deserves fair investment, safer neighbourhoods and a cleaner environment.
Community safety matters. I support monitored CCTV and reviewing decisions like switching off street lighting at night, which impacts residents’ safety, particularly women.
Gosport has huge potential. By supporting local businesses and revitalising the high street, we can restore confidence and build a stronger future for our town.
I’m not a career politician. I’ve served my country, worked hard all my life, and I’m ready to serve my community.

"I’ve served my country, I’ve worked all my life — now I’m standing to serve Gosport."
