Colin Towell

"I was born in Portsmouth and first moved to Gosport at the age of two, where I have lived almost exclusively for more than fifty years. I was the first in my family to go to university where I studied Banking, Insurance and Finance before pursuing an almost twenty-year career in The City, ending my time there with a position at the Bank of England, before going on to set up as a freelance consultant.

As a youth I travelled extensively in Africa, India and Papua New Guinea, where I learned to appreciate how lucky I was to live in this country, with its rich culture, history, tolerance and sense of fair play. I have always been interested in politics but never before felt the need to be active. Now however, the very fabric of our country is under threat from many of its own institutions that seek to denigrate our history, culture and values by dividing us into a hierarchy of repression and silencing those who dissent. Our right to speak freely is the most precious of all our rights; it is the foundation of freedom, of democracy, of human flourishing and all human progress. We must defend it, for ourselves and our children and preserve that which is precious about our nation.

I have watched Gosport go through highs and lows, but I have never before seen it as low as it is today. This town deserves better. We need to break the grip of our Liberal led council, obsessed with vanity projects doomed to failure, like the Criterion Centre, which will only ever present a cost to this town and feed our money to the owners of events companies. We need to break the grip of the Tories over our parliamentary seat, who believe the way to improve access to this town is by moving the entrance to Newgate Lane a hundred meters east. We need real change, real investment, real improvements in transport and connectivity and when elected, this is what I will seek to achieve for the town that raised me, nurtured me and made what I am."
