Elly Newman
Candidate for Leesland & Newton
I was born in Southsea and raised in Waterlooville with my three brothers. I am proud of my British and Irish roots. My father served in the Royal Navy for 30 years, and my mother came to the UK from Ireland in the late 1950s to work as a nurse in the NHS. Service to others has always been a defining part of my family life.
I moved to Gosport in 2021 and, despite not knowing the area at first, I was struck by how welcoming and friendly the community is. It quickly became home.
My hope for my family, and for all families, is that children grow up proud of their country, with real opportunities to build a secure future, and that people of all ages feel valued, safe and supported. I also believe our veterans deserve care and respect that truly reflects their service and sacrifice.
Losing my husband to cancer, alongside facing a serious health issue myself, has given me first-hand experience of both the strengths and the gaps within our public services. These experiences have shaped my outlook and strengthened my determination to see things improve.
Reform UK’s focus on Family, Community and Country aligns strongly with my values. The party offers a fresh, common-sense approach that puts people before politics — something our country urgently needs.
When councils, police, businesses, public services and residents work together, communities thrive. That is why I am standing as a community campaigner: to give Leesland and Newtown a strong local voice, rooted in real life experience, and committed to delivering better outcomes for our community.

“I believe in family, community and country — and in giving our veterans the respect they have earned.”
